This software is a Virtual PG-800 synthesizer programmer for use with the ROLAND MKS-70, JX-8P, or JX-10 hardware.    It emulates the hardware editor in a software environment within the APPLE LOGIC audio/sequencer program (formerly Emagic Logic).     To use this software you MUST have a valid copy of LOGIC on your computer (see below) as well as a MIDI interface which connects your computer via MIDI cable to your hardware synthesizer.
This software CANNOT be used as a stand alone application under any
circumstances.     It will NOT run in Ableton, Reason, VST or any other
host – it is not a plug-in but two importable layers of the Logic
environment.
Upon purchase, you will ultimately receive a ZIP archive of the editor
you purchased for Logic.     UNZIP this archive and you will have a
LOGIC song document you can now open in the Logic program (Mac v8-9 and
vX are supplied – please request special version if needed).      Once
open, you will see the editor on your screen and you can then discover
the pleasures of a Virtual PG-800 for your Roland synthesizer!

Logic X upgrades have been ported to earlier versions.    Previous
buyers may contact me here for free upgrade to any version v4 – 9.      New features include FULL RESET and HYPERDRAW MIDI CC compatibility.
OVERVIEW:
This editor is physically laid out exactly like a real PG-800 (Roland’s hardware programmer).    If you’re familiar with the original PG-800 then you should feel right at home here.    I’ve opted to use buttons whereas the real PG-800 uses 4-position switches.    This is because there are no 4-position switches in Logic to use and also because it allows me to label each parameter on its button.    Other than this, you should feel like you are using a PG-800 with just a few exceptions.    I’ve tried to include every parameter I could to control the MKS-70 / JX including a few not found on the original PG-800.
All real time moves are recordable by the Logic sequencer for repeatable
real time changes on playback – or you can automate using HYPERDRAW.
     You may also remotely control these SYSEX faders and buttons via a
hardware control surface if you take the time to tailor the controls to
suit your individual hardware.     This is not difficult to do and needs
only be done once and then saved for future sessions.
The editor
resides in two layers of the LOGIC environment hierarchy – and is
importable to your personal autoload song (notes on how to do so are
included).

*SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
ATTENTION:  MKS-70 OWNERS:
This software requires the most current Roland Operating System for the MKS-70 to edit both upper and lower tones properly.     There was a major bug in all but the most current MKS-70 Operating Systems and was only addressed by Roland at the very end of the product cycle.   What you need is MKS-70 OS v1.08.   This should be obtainable from Roland for free if you apply the proper pressure because all prior OS’s are defective and not up to the documented specifications.   (Some Roland offices in certain countries are more apt to help you with this than others — but know that it is easy for ROLAND to burn you a set of IC’s of the correct OS even if you have to send in your original IC’s for reprogramming).
To check what version software you currently have in your MKS-70 hold “Value” and “Shift” upon powering up the unit.   If you have a pre-1.08 OS installed you will only be able to edit one tone on the MKS-70 and not the other.   Call Roland for the upgrade now if you want to use this editor for both tones (as you should!).
ATTENTION:  JX-8P OWNERS:
I have created this software to fully comply with the JX-8P synthesizer.     Please request the JX-8P version upon purchase as it is a different version from the MKS-70.     Most everything is the same as to looks and functionality – but only one editor window will be applicable for the six voice JX-8P.     New vX upgrade for JX-8P eliminates unused MKS-70 parameters and adds FACTORY PRESET selector for on board ROM sounds, as well as the other vX upgrades including FULL RESET and HYPERDRAW MIDI CC compatibility.
ATTENTION:  JX-10 OWNERS:
This software will not work with a stock Roland JX-10 because the MIDI SYSEX implementation on that keyboard is defective.    There is a free firmware upgrade from a third party here (software file only):    Please do a search on “Vecoven and JX-10” to find it (no links allowed now!)
My editor will work once this firmware is installed in your JX-10 – but with the limitations described on their web site.    Generally it works fine – the only limitation being you cannot edit both tones simultaneously as you can on the MKS-70.    You can edit both tones separately, but only one at a time depending on which tone is currently “live” in the edit buffer.    On an MKS-70 you can edit both tones simultaneously from two different editor windows or automate the editing of both tones LIVE on playback via the sequencer recording function.

SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS:
This editor is brand new but is still compatible with many different
versions of Logic starting with Emagic MAC Version 4.x.     It is
compatible with ALL versions of Logic through vX.     It is also
compatible with Logic Express v7 – 9.     If you have a version 8 Logic
you must use v 8.01 or higher which fixes a SYSEX bug that renders v8.0
inoperable.
This editor is also compatible with the v4 – v5 PC
versions of Logic (please specify upon purchase).      In all v5’s – it
is compatible down to Logic SILVER.     NOT compatible with Micro-Logic
or any of the other earlier neutered Emagic bundled versions.
This
editor is designed to fit on two screens with a screen resolution of
1024 X 768 each or larger but will also work on smaller screens.
